How to choose the correct colored contact lenses scientifically?

Science knowledge of colored contact lenses

Hi girls, I'm the beauty makeup artist Tina from Anmabeauty. I believe there must be many girls like me who have been eager to try colored contact lenses, but are always worried about the safety, the period etc.

I will talk about the topic with you from various dimensions of the colored contact lenses.

1. Basic Curve of colored contact lenses

A colored contact lens is a convex hemispherical shape. This design is to make the colored contact lens closely fit our eyeballs. The base curve is the curvature of the colored contact lens.

The greater the value of the base curve, the smaller the curvature of the colored contact lens and the flatter the lens of the colored contact lens. A lens that is not flat is definitely not good. If your eyeballs are not protruding enough, you need to use flat lenses.

It's necessary to choose the base curve that suits your eyeball curvature when buying a colored contact lens.

- If the base curvature of the lens is greater than the curvature of the eyeball, the lens will not stick to the eyeball and cause displacement.

- If the base curvature of the lens is smaller than the curvature of the eyeball, the eye produce tightness and discomfort.

Acturally these two values cannot be completely consistent. Experts believe that the difference between the base curve of the lens and of the eyeball should be controlled within 0.2mm. I recommend you to ask an ophthalmologist or optometrist to measure the basic parameters such as the base curve of the eyeball before purchasing cosmetic lenses.

If it's inconvenient for you right now. You can choose 8.5mm BC first because the base arc of most people's eyeballs is between 8.4mm and 8.6mm. This method is also applicable to the selection of contact lenses.

BASIC CURVE

Choose the base curve that suits your eyeball curvature.

2. The diameter of the colored contact lenses

The diameter of the colored contact lens is divided into Actual diameter and Graphic diameter (As shown below). Basically, the diameter marked on product details page refers to the actual diameter. The diameter of the common color contact lens is generally 13.5mm-15mm. Those larger than 15mm are basically special effect lenses and no one would wear them at ordinary times.

The diameter of our pupils is generally 12mm. The diameters of the lenses that we most use are 14.0mm, 14.2mm and 14.5mm. 14.5-15mm is basically the exclusive diameter for the social celebrities. Wearing it on is almost invisible and unnatural for ordinary people.

2 DIAMETERs OF COLORED CONTACT LENSES

1. Diameter

2. Graphic Diameter

It is easy to feel the pressure and to cause hypoxia and dryness in the eyes if you exceed the value. I would not recommend it!

Remember, the smaller the eyes - the smaller the actual diameter of the color contact lenses you should choose. If the small eyes wear large diameter color contact lenses, the exposed white part of the eye will be less, and the eyes will appear smaller.

The graphic diameter, to describe it in a user-friendly point, is the diameter of the convex lens after it is pressed into a flat plane. The function of this parameter is to refer to the enlargement effect of the lenses. The larger the value of the graphic diameter, the more obvious the enlargement effect of the colored contact lenses.

If you look closely at the colored contact lenses, you'll find that not the entire lens of a lens is colored, the outer circle is usually transparent. The same is true for our eyeballs, so the graphic diameter represents how much of the part (the colored part) that can really dilate the pupil.

When two lenses with the same actual diameter are put together, the one with the larger graphic diameter will appear larger when worn.

3. Water content of colored contact lenses

The water content represents the proportion of water contained in a colored contact lens. The higher the water content of the colored contact lens, the better the air permeability, the softer the lens and the more comfortable to use.

But the lens itself doesn't produce water, so in order to maintain its own wetness, the lens will suck the eyeball's moisture. Therefore, colored contact lenses with high water content will feel dry and uncomfortable faster than those with low water content. More drops of eye drops are needed to improve this shortcoming.

Lenses with high water content are more prone to wear because of the soft texture. They are generally only used for daily or weekly disposal.

4. Cycle of colored contact lenses

The disposable of colored contact lenses are mostly divided into on the market is divided into daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and yearly. Daily disposables means that the use period is only 1 day, weekly disposables are used for 7 days and so on.

The colored contact lenses must be replaced when the expiration date is almost reached. It's better don't delay until the last day

Generally, regarding to the yearly disposable contacts, you need to throw it away in 8 or 9 months. You'll feel it different if you drag it later and it's extremely dangerous! The shorter the date, the better the feeling of use, but the more expensive it is, so the yearly disposable contact is most cost-effective. But you must pay attention to daily cleaning.

If the cleaning method is too rough, it will also shorten the life of the lens.

5. Powers of colored contact lenses

The distance between the colored contact lenses and the eyeball is extremely close, for each one person, the power of colored contact lenses and myopia glasses are different

The power of colored contact lenses could be converted. The basis of the conversion is based on the power of myopia of your eyes, not the power of the glasses you are currently wearing. The following conversion values are for reference only:

When the myopia is below 100, I recommend to choose plano lenses.

When the power of myopia is between 100-300, the power of the colored contact lenses is subtracted by 25 from the power of myopia.

When the power of myopia is between 300-500, the power of the colored contact lenses is subtracted by 25 or 50 from the power of myopia.

When the power of myopia is between 500-700, the power of the colored contact lenses is subtracted by 50 or 75 from the power of myopia.

When the power of myopia is between 700-900, the power of the colored contact lenses is subtracted by 75 or 100 from the power of myopia.

When the power of myopia is between 900-1100, the power of the colored contact lenses is subtracted by 100 or 125 from the power of myopia.

Note 1: The above methods are also available at contact lenses

Note 2: Most colored contact lenses have no astigmatism.

6. The color of colored contact lenses

The color selection of colored contact lenses is rich, here are a few comments for reference only.

Black Contacts: Black can give the sense of sight of big watery eyes, but the color is too dense, it's easy to looked unnatural.

Brown Contacts: Brown is the most natural color among all colors. Most of our pupils are brown or dark brown, the color transition of wearing brown colored contact lenses will be super natural, the disadvantage is that the color rendering is the lowest.

Gray Contacts:  Create a excellent excellent blood effect. The light gray is more picky than dark gray and requires delicate makeup. If the facial features are not deep enough you may look like cataracts.

Blue Contacts: Blue contacts is so exotic! I think it's more suitable for fair-skinned girls than those with yellow and black skin as it will look duller.

Green Contacts: Green is slightly less picky than blue. Everyone can try the green contoncts and you will looked smart.

Purple Contacts: Purple is a so attractive color. It requires fair skin and small features to control it.

7. Does colored contact hurt the eyeball?

Whether it's a contact lens or a colored contact lens, long-term wearing must be harmful. The colored contact lens injects the pigment layer into the lens, so it's usually thicker and theoretically hurts the eyes more than contact lenses.

Don't wear contact lenses for a long time since it may cause hypoxia in the eyes, cause red blood streaks, and even wear down the cornea, causing keratitis. Don't wear lenses more than 5 days a week, and try not to exceed 8 hours a day.

And you should pay attention to the cleaning of the lenses. It's best to use alternately with frame glasses.

8. Wearing and cleaning of colored contact lenses

1. Make sure to cut your nails short when you wear the colored contact lenses for the first time you're unskilled.

2. Secondly, wash your hands, touch the eyeball with your fingertips and let the eyeball get used to this touch, and then use the other hand to open the eyelid, put the lens in from bottom to top, or use a colored contact lens assist stick to assist in wearing.

3. Each time cleaning the colored contact lenses, wash your hands first, then pour the care solution into the palm of your hand, throw the lens in, and gently rub it with the ring finger of the other hand. Then change to the other side and continue rubbing, then rinse again with the care solution, rinse and soak in the clean care solution until you use it again. It’s best to change the care solution every day. If you can’t do it every day, remember to clean the lens again before taking it out the next time.   If you think it's too troublesome to wash by hand, you can also choose to buy an automatic colored contact cleaning box from anmabeauty.com

That's all. Go and choose the colored contact lenses for you now!
