How to regard astigmatism correctly?

How to regard astigmatism correctly?

1.What is astigmatism?

Astigmatism is a kind of refractive abnormality of the eye, which is related to the curvature of the cornea. After the parallel light enters the eye, because the eyeball has different refractive powers on different meridians, it can't be concentrated at one point (focus), and a clear object image can't be formed. This situation is called astigmatism.

2.How is astigmatism formed?

No one knows the exact cause of astigmatism. But although the causes of astigmatism are different, the culprit is heredity. If your vision is blurred, look up your family tree. Your parents or other relatives may also have astigmatism. Astigmatism is not necessarily inherited, and sometimes eye trauma can also cause astigmatism. There is also keratoconus, a disorder that causes the cornea to develop into a conical shape. This can exacerbate the astigmatism problem and may require special contact lenses or surgery, but this is relatively rare.

3.Symptoms of astigmatism

Astigmatism and myopia have different causes and manifestations. To put it simply, myopia means looking close and looking far away blurry; while astigmatism means looking close and far away are not clear, and seeing things have ghosting. So, what are the main symptoms of eye astigmatism?

  •  Blur and ghosting: Blurred vision is closely related to the degree and mode of astigmatism. People with mild astigmatism usually have normal vision, but may experience headaches, eye fatigue, and blurred vision when looking at objects at a certain distance. People with severe astigmatism have blurred and distorted vision, and can't see clearly from far or near. If they work at close distances for a little longer, they may have eye swelling and headache, reading sloppy or double images.
  • Visual Fatigue: Especially hyperopic astigmatism patients, is prone to visual fatigue, which requires continuous fine adjustment of blurred images on the retina and distortion of vision.
4. Astigmatism treatment

Most astigmatism problems are easy to treat. There are several correction options. These include:

  • Glasses
  • Contact lenses
  • Laser surgery correction. Please keep in mind that the different options for astigmatism vision correction have different effects. If you are over 40 years old, you may need multifocal or bifocal contact lenses.

Be sure to ask the ophthalmologist for advice to see which option is best for you and your lifestyle.

5.Can people with astigmatism wear colored contact lenses?

Generally, there is slight astigmatism, and people with astigmatism below 200 can wear contact lenses. Using 50 degrees of astigmatism to convert to 25 degrees of myopia can be converted to the required degree. If astigmatism exceeds 200 degrees, you need to customize the contact lenses if you wear them. If your astigmatism is below 200 degrees, you can choose contact lenses at anmabeauty online colored contact store. The products are diverse and safe and reliable. There will always be one that suits you.

In addition, patients with astigmatism are usually suitable to wear toric contact lenses. The lower part of the contact lens for astigmatism is thicker to prevent the contact lens from turning in the eye. This helps to ensure that the orientation of the lens is always the same and predictable, thereby improving visual acuity. It also helps simplify fitting and save time.

The correction of astigmatism is simple. Just go to the ophthalmologist and follow the recommended options. Don't be shy to express your preference for lens types (such as yearly, daily, etc.). Your optometrist will help.   This article is not medical advice, nor can it replace the advice of a medical professional. For specific questions, please consult an ophthalmologist.
